About us

The goals of department are to train researchers and teacher candidates who are equipped with the historical knowdedge, open for novelty in the concerning area, who can utilize technology in research and teaching activities, incorporate with other disciplines, utilize the gains of these disciplines in research and teaching, view events objectively, who are loyal to academic ethic rules, Ataturk’s Principles and Revolution, national and spiritual values of Republic of Turkey.

The targets of department are developing the infrastructure necessary to train researchers and teachers who are open for novelty, loyal to Ataturk’s principles able to use modern technology, who have academic thought, delivering a high quality education on historical research and teaching training researchers and teachers that Republic of Turkey needs, delivering education using the developments and new techniques in the world, Organizing symposiums, panels and conferences in order to support the vocational improvement of the students by means of following domestic and international developments.

Student admission is determined through the central undergraduate placement examinations administered by OSYM. The application requirements indicated in the guide of OSYM are valid. Regulations of the university’s Foreign Languages High School Preparatory Class are valid, so the programs which have compulsory preparatory classes require taking proficiency exam at the beginning of the academic year. Students who pass this exam or have sufficient scores from one of the equivalent language examinations are considered to be exempted from preparatory class. Undergraduate academic regulations of the university are also valid for student admission to the undergraduate programs.

When the program is complated succesfuly and competencies are provided, students receive a Bachelor's degree with title of Historian. A mid-term and a final exam is held for each semester. 30% of mid-term and 70% of final exam is taken to form overall grade. It is required for students to take lessons from undergraduate program consisted equivalent 240 ECTS total credits and to pass taken courses. In the last year students have to prepare a dissertation under the supervision of a faculty and submit.

Students who complete the program successfully may apply for graduate or post-graduate programs on History or other disciplines that accept History graduates.
